Circuit court judges run for office and are elected by the voters of the respective circuits in nonpartisan, contested elections against other qualified judicial candidates. Circuit court judges serve six-year terms, and are subject to the same standards and procedures as Supreme Court Justices and District Court judges.

District Court of Appeal judges, are appointed by the governor of Florida, but are retained via elections every six years. At election time, voters are asked on the ballot to vote whether the judge should be retained in office.
